With the Oscillatory Baffled Reactor, conditions very near to plug flow can be attained at relatively low flow rates, of as low as 0.35l/minute. This results in consistent product quality and less waste. A significantly more compact reactor footprint is also achieved.
The correct combination of oscillation amplitude and frequency creates a well mixed regime in the OBR. When a net flow is applied this well mixed plug moves along the length of the OBR with very little axial spread. The near plug flow is achieved at less than a tenth of the flow rate of traditional tubular reactors.
